K+ - April - A Retro Recipe

Hello there everyone

I'm back with another entry for Kraft + and oh boy, this one certainly got me thinking... What a wonderful list of ingredients.  I just love this site.

So this is the recipe:

Looking at this, my mind immediately drifted towards the typical country lifestyle and what I know as Country Craft. My aunt loves the Country Craft magazines and is also a keen seamstress.  Her walls are decorated with a multitude of handmade and altered items, you would typically find between the pages of these sort of magazines. My mom always laughs as she would look at something and think, "Seriously, what do you need that for ?" However it would not be long before she would be both wowed and surprised at what my aunt came up with. I'm sure you will understand why I could not but help to be inspired.

So after completing a couple of layouts this month, I decided it's time for a rest and have a play with some cards. Yes I realise they were not blogged, but for now it's all secret squirrel business, but stay tuned more will be revealed in time... :)

Here is my take on the challenge

Here are some close ups followed by the method:

I followed the same recipe and just altered a few elements to suit each card or tag. So here's my mixture:

  • I've started by embossing the backgrounds of my 2 cards using an big dot embossing folder by QuicKutz. However, I chose not to emboss the tag and keep it simple.
  • I then stamped the background with gesso using a grid stamp. *Note that you need to clean the stamp immediately after each use, to prevent it from sticking to it. Once the gesso was dry I added a second layer of stamping using some black Stazon and a script stamp.
  • Following the colours of the retro recipe I covered some tags with Gelati Basics pattern paper. In some cases I punched new circles to thread the twine through and in others I fussy cut some from some spare tags.
  • To complete the tags I stamped some sentiments on kraft paper and embossed them with fine white embossing powder. *The kraft paper I have is quite coarse in texture, so I found that the courser embossing powders did not want to stick to the stamped word.
  • I then cut some flags from washi tape for accents and to ground the placing of my tags.
  • I love to layer my work, so I stuck each piece of patterned paper or sentiment on a bit of thin chipboard for extra dimension.
  • Next I created some Sunflowers using a MFT Dynamics die set. I used some foam tape to create a bit of dimension between the layers of my petals.  A combination of silver micro beads and black Ice Stickles was then used to create a more realistic impression of centre of the sunflowers.
  • Last but not least, a little bit of silver bling was added for a bit of sparkle
  • Eight steps and it's done. Not that hard is it? :)
Hope you enjoyed this and thank you for stopping by.

Happy crafting xoxo
